The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year Old is one of the most celebrated expressions from this historic Speyside distillery, prized for the depth and complexity that comes from its distinctive two-cask maturation process. Distilled at The Balvenie in Dufftown and matured for seventeen years — first in traditional whisky oak, then finished in European oak sherry casks — it carries the rich, honeyed character the DoubleWood range is known for, developed at a maturity most bottlings never reach. Bottled at 43% ABV and presented in its original branded packaging, this is a well-aged, sought-after single malt for any serious whisky collection.

Heritage & Detailing
Founded in 1892 by William Grant, The Balvenie remains one of the few distilleries in Scotland to still grow its own barley, floor malt it by hand, and employ its own coppersmiths and coopers on site. That obsessive craft focus is what allows Malt Master David C. Stewart — the man behind the original DoubleWood technique — to shape each cask’s character with real precision, rather than relying on blending alone.
This 17 Year Old expression takes the DoubleWood philosophy further than the standard 12 Year bottling, spending considerably longer in cask before its finishing period in European oak sherry casks. The extra maturation deepens the honeyed, spiced character the range is known for, resulting in a noticeably richer, more rounded single malt.

Why RareFind Rates This Piece Rare & Collectable
RareFind rates this as a highly collectable single malt. 17 Year Old DoubleWood is considerably scarcer than the standard 12 Year bottling, and represents significantly more time spent maturing in cask, giving it a depth younger expressions simply can’t match. It carries the pioneering double-cask maturation technique developed by Malt Master David C. Stewart, a method now imitated across the whisky industry but perfected here at its source. For collectors building a serious single malt collection, this is a well-aged bottle worth securing.
