The Balvenie PX Cask 18 Year Old is one of the richest expressions in the distillery’s cask-finish range, taking its distinctive character from Pedro Ximénez sherry butts — among the sweetest cask types used in Scotch whisky production. Distilled at The Balvenie in Dufftown and matured for eighteen years, first in traditional American oak whisky casks before finishing in PX sherry butts, it develops a deep, dessert-like sweetness layered over the distillery’s signature honeyed malt. Bottled at 48.7% ABV and presented in its original branded packaging, this is a decadent, well-aged single malt for collectors who favour sherry-forward whisky.

Heritage & Detailing
Founded in 1892 by William Grant, The Balvenie remains one of the few distilleries in Scotland to still grow its own barley, floor malt it by hand, and employ its own coppersmiths and coopers on site. Under Malt Master David C. Stewart, the distillery pioneered the cask-finishing techniques that define its modern range, using different wood types to layer flavour onto the same honeyed spirit.
The PX Cask 18 Year Old pushes that technique toward the richest end of the spectrum. Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, seasoned with one of Jerez’s sweetest wine styles, impart deep notes of dried fruit, toffee and dark chocolate that build over eighteen years of maturation — a markedly more indulgent profile than the distillery’s more restrained expressions.

Why RareFind Rates This Piece Rare & Collectable
RareFind rates this as a highly collectable single malt. PX Cask 18 Year Old is a limited-availability expression, finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry butts that are considerably harder to source than standard sherry casks, giving this bottling a richness that sets it apart from the core range. Eighteen years of maturation from a distillery renowned for its cask-finishing craftsmanship makes this a standout for any serious whisky collection. For collectors who favour sherry-forward, dessert-style single malts, this is a bottle worth securing.
