1 in stock
The Balvenie The Week of Peat is a striking departure from the distillery’s usual unpeated style, born from distillery manager Ian Millar’s idea to malt barley using Speyside peat smoke for just one week each year. This 19 Year Old expression is one of the oldest releases in that series, matured across ex-bourbon and Oloroso ex-sherry casks to layer the distillery’s signature honeyed malt with smoke, spice and dried fruit. Bottled at 48.3% ABV and left non-chill filtered, it is a genuinely distinctive single malt for collectors who want something beyond Balvenie’s more familiar sherry-cask expressions.

Heritage & Detailing
Founded in 1892 by William Grant, The Balvenie remains one of the few distilleries in Scotland to still grow its own barley and floor malt it by hand — a level of hands-on craft that gives its team direct control over the character of the spirit before it ever touches a cask.
The Week of Peat takes that control in an unusual direction: once a year, Balvenie’s own maltings floor-malt barley using peat smoke, a practice distillery manager Ian Millar championed as a deliberate contrast to the distillery’s typically unpeated house style. This 19 Year Old expression draws on that peated malt, matured across ex-bourbon and Oloroso ex-sherry casks to balance smoke against the distillery’s honeyed, fruit-forward character.

Why RareFind Rates This Piece Rare & Collectable
RareFind rates this as a highly collectable single malt. The Week of Peat is produced from barley malted for only one week each year, making peated Balvenie itself a rare departure from the distillery’s usual style, and this 19 Year Old is a notably older release than the more commonly seen entries in the series. Non-chill filtered and bottled at cask-forward strength, it offers a genuinely different side of Balvenie for collectors who already own the distillery’s core sherry-cask expressions. This is a distinctive addition for any serious Speyside collection.
